SINGLE REVIEW: TILLY CHRISTIANSSON - TROUBLE FOR ME

Every time a new single arrives from Tilly Christiansson, instinctively #TEAMw21 are drawn to revisit "Whiskey Hotel You", before diving into her latest creation, just to check it is as magnificent as when we first heard it - and each time it only gets better. In truth Tilly has released a string of excellent singles and in "Trouble For Me", producer Lewis "Two Ways Home" Folkner has returned Tilly to her poppy best although naturally her lyrics always have sting in the tail.

The opening verse paints a somewhat confusing picture, with Tilly obviously vexed about someone and their activities.

"I heard he met a girl last night

Guess I wasn't on his mind

Don't know if I ever was

But I heard he met a girl last night"

It's played to little more than a guitar and a drum beat

The second verse only adds to Tilly's woes, although musically additional guitars arrive giving a more country feel to the track.

SINGLE REVIEW: TILLY CHRISTIANSSON - TROUBLE FOR ME

"He was out doing the town alright

The blue was deepening in my eyes

Don't know where he'll go from here

But I heard he met a girl last night"

The true dilemma facing Tilly reveals itself in the chorus - she knows what will happen but cannot stop herself. It's a chorus blessed with melody, the third line sees Tilly's vocals at their purest classic pop. Five times she confirms "I know he's trouble" yet despite recognizing it, Tilly can only accept that heartbreak and upset are coming her way with that final "For me"

"I know he's trouble

I know he's trouble

Cause it's all he's ever shown

I know he's trouble

I know he's trouble

Deep down to the bone

I know he's trouble

For me!"

The answer to what makes her feel this way comes in the bridge - it's sheer infatuation.

"And I've been pushing him aside

Every time he's on my mind

But I can't control it

I'm lost and I know it"

The final choruses see Tilly add in additional backing vocals to great effect. Things close with an ominous strum of the guitar and a husky Tilly speaking the words with an almost murderous intent

"And I heard he met a girl last night"

"Trouble For Me" is released 27th March.
