A welcome return to recorded action from long term #TEAMw21 favourite Raihanna Estrada with her new single "Staring At The Ceiling". It opens to a frantic mix of both pedal steel and electric guitars along with bombastic percussion each firing on all cylinders.
It covers the joys and frustrations of life in Nashville where Raihanna along with everyone else is looking for that little break, that little spark of inspiration that will set them on a road to who knows where!!
Five years in the making, from the initial spark of inspiration, comes the realisation in the final produced product, and the fruition has been well worth the journey.
"Has everything gone crazy?
Or maybe it's just me
Goes up and down then back around
Into uncertainty
I bide my time
While I write some rhymes
Looking for some clarity
Some days I get the best of it
And others it gets the best of me"
The incessantly catchy chorus lays bare the frustrations of the creative process
"Another day staring at the ceiling
Looking for something to believe in
Has everything lost its meaning?
Don't know where the world ends and I begin
Don't wanna sit around broken hearted
Trying to get back to why I started
Another day another feeling
Lying right here
Staring at the ceiling"
The one thing that drives all artists is that focus and belief that all will work out in the end, and Raihanna lays that bare, though admitting that some days it can be a struggle.
"It's all gonna work out
This I know for sure
I'm not scared now that I'm aware of
What's hiding behind my doors
Now I bide my time
While I write some rhymes
When everything won't let me be
Some days I get the best of it
And others it gets the best of me"
A screaming guitar solo adds a little separation before Raihanna returns using her vocal talents in a variety of different ways, quick fire, extended, soulful she has the full set in her armoury. it all goes to show that her time staring at the ceiling has been well spent!
