SINGLE REVIEW: JENN BOSTIC - LOVE YOU MORE

You can't but feel that Jenn Bostic's outlook has been a little more insular of late with singles about her Mother, and child. Her latest single, perfectly timed for Father's Day pays tribute to the other half of her relationship.
Written with long time friend Emily Shackelton, who also provides backing vocals along with another long term Jenn associate, Sarah Darling. This project practically oozes in warmth and love.
Musically it seems reasonably simple with just a piano and acoustic guitar for the most part leading the way, there is some electric guitar and low key percussion later but they add embellishment and rhythm more than driving the tune forwards. That of course is the point, this is a simple expression of genuine feeling. It could easily drift into mawkish sentimentality, however you never feel the Jenn is ever uttering a word that she does not truly feel and believe and in doing so she taps into a universal feeling that hopefully most parents get to experience.
"Blurry nights, tired days
All become one sleepless haze
I breathe out, you walk in
Like you know what I need again
Surprise surprise, guess I'm not always right
Feels like I'm seeing you for the first time"
The arrival of a child in a relationship does have a profound effect, there's a whole new person entirely relying on you to look after them, it can bring out the absolute best in people. The chorus sees Jenn up the volume somewhat as she addresses all the warnings she had been given before hand
"Everyone said, everything would change
I was sure you and I would stay the same
Didn't know I could love any deeper,
Deeper than I did before
But watching you become a father
Somehow I love you more"
The cover for the single is a simplistic sketch with minimal lines and detail yet it perfectly captures, the Father's pride, while the baby's smile is of sweet contentment. The second verse tries to capture that essence lyrically. It sees the arrival of the extra instrumentation but it is still Jenn holding the attention as she makes more pertinent observations.
"Look at you holding him
Maybe you were made for this
Blows my mind, every time
Oh just to think we almost let this pass us by"
The second chorus is even more celebratory, and there's a sheer joy in the delivery as Jenn wraps her vocals around the middle section melody.
Writing happy tunes is always said to be the hardest thing to do - this is joyful and excellent in all ways - one for parents everywhere, young, old and prospective to enjoy.
