SINGLE REVIEW: JENN BOSTIC - EASY TO LOVE

It's always a pleasure to receive new music from Jenn Bostic, and "Easy To Love" previewed earlier in the year on her during her short UK jaunt, is now revealed in all it's glory. Within just the opening few seconds of piano and organ that give such a soulful vibe, it immediately becomes clear that we are going to be in for a treat with some classic Jenn! Written as the cover makes clear, about her, at the time newly born son,the opening verse touches on the guilt that all parents feel about wanting to make sure that they do the absolute best they can for their child.

As Jenn, joins the fray there's a delightful way that she wraps her vocals around certain words and just extends them like "Hard", "Myself" and "Way". There's also an easy almost conversational style approach

"I can be hard on myself -

Sometimes I feel that like it's so natural for everybody else.

Fumbling my way the whole way through,

Life can be a little difficult, but then there's you"

The lyrics of the chorus hit like verbal punches, as for each section Jenn seems able to add more vocal power without losing control. With little other than a muted piano and crisp percussion to compete with Jenn's voice hits home every time.

"You make it easy to love you

Say what you mean, mean what you say

And you ain't playing games

Some days can be so hard to get through

But even when its tough, you're just so easy to love"

Coming out of the chorus sees the arrival of more percussion, as the demon of doubt once more creeps in, but as always love wins out in the end.

"Expecting so much of myself

Sometimes I feel that you'd be better off with somebody else

But whenever I get in my head,

You show me I'm, the only one, again and again"

The arrival of a choir of backing vocalists only emphasise the soulful feeling further and the rest of the song just celebrates that magical bond between Mother and child to the absolute maximum. There's a charming moment where just before things go ballistic, that Jenn affords herself a little chuckle, just after a little piano flourish, as she knows what vocal mountains that lay ahead, needless to see they are all climbed with absolute ease. A truly joyful celebration of the worries and delights of parenthood.
