SINGLE REVIEW: - BRIAN COLLINS - BOTTOM OF THE GLASS

Heading to Country Calling on his return jaunt to the UK is Brian Collins who coincidentally has a new single out in "Bottom Of The Glass". It is your bona fide drinking song, and surely will be the cue for much merriment at the festival.
It's a somewhat idealised evening at the local boozer and seems a little anachronistic - with its references to the working week ending with the blowing of a whistle but it's a bit of fun and not really meant for any great lyrical dissection.
"It’s quitting time; it’s Friday night,
We’re ready for a party.
When the whistle blows,
The boys come blurring in, all hail and hearty.
The good chair’s overflowing at our so-called second home,
Where the walls don’t know a stranger, and nobody drinks alone."
For reasons not entirely clear, Brian is just the right side of not putting on an Irish accent although his phrasing does make this lean towards sounding like an old Irish folk song. At least he's not pictured with a pint of Guinness which might have taken things a bit too far.
There is a rich organ sound that elevates this song, and the percussion and guitars do fire it along at a cracking pace making it all good fun. Let's just raise a glass have a good time and toast "Country Calling".
