Hot on the heels of her excellent "Death Of Me" single and an inspiring performance at Long Road comes another installment of Angie K announcing her inevitable rise to the top. It seems very much a transition single, taking her El Salvadorian heritage including snatches of Spanish in the lyrics while equally sounding authentic Nashville in other parts. It therefore has the easy rhythms of "Laredo" with the heartfelt honesty of "Death Of Me" with a truly exquisite vocal to match.
Opening to an acoustic guitar Angie is quick to lay her cards on the table - this song is bi-lingual, the opening verse capturing her in her now native Georgian accent.
It has a slight smoky rasp to it that makes it much more interesting to listen to.
"Living in a world of beautiful people
Hard to know what's fake and what's real
This kinda fire it don't fit in a steeple
Wish somehow I could tell you how I feel
No words could ever come close
Baby, I know you've been patient
Just hold me, I'll speak slowly
So we won't be lost in translation"
The chorus is a mixture of languages that Angie effortlessly flits between as the music gets injected with a little Mexican rhythm
"Contigo me quedaré
Mi corazón, para siempre
On the edge but we won't break
With you my heart will always
Contigo me quedaré
Mi corazón, para siempre
On the edge but we won't break
With you my heart will always
Stay, stay"
The second verse seems a brutally honest, an open expression of feeling and Angie K's vocal imbues the whole track with a sense of authenticity.
"Sometimes I get scarеd, love can get heavy
It's only 'causе I know this is real
I know it ain't fair, baby, it wrecks me
To know sometimes you question how I feel"
In essence the instrumentation is pretty basic, but it is so effective , the guitars, electric, acoustic, Spanish, never put a foot wrong and create a marvellous musical bed. For all intents and purposes the song has all but finished with a minute still to go and could easily have ended there in less skilled hands, Instead we get to marvel at the playing while Angie K, coos and plucks out lines in Spanish to great effect.
The third in a great line of singles from someone who is most definitely going places.
