It was at the recent C2C 2025 that #TEAMw21 last crossed paths with Andrew Jones, he was heading out of the O2 as we were heading in and it got us thinking - What's he up to now? It seems only yesterday that barely a week would go by without Acoustic Journey or their later incarnation Journey Home supporting somone in London. #TEAMw21 also caught one of Andrew's fledgling solo performances at a Songwriters Round in Oxford.
He's back with a new single, some of which addresses those bygone times with the snazzy title of "100 Years An Hour". As it opens the swathes of guitar might make you feel this was the latest sound from Nashville which may be due to the combined production talents of Nashville’s Smith Curry and UK’s Jamie Masters however Andrew's reassuring nasal twang soon puts us back in the UK.
It's a song about reminscing on times past and reflecting at how fast time goes by. It's the second verse that deals with the area we are most definitely familiar with
"Leather jacket, started a band
Went from 20 to 30 just gigging around
All the memories from the good times we had
I'd never change one back
I'd never worry about getting older
Cigarettes in a business card holder
A 24 crate shared between us
I'd never get one back"
The chorus shows Andrew at his most inventive best
"And I'm tearing up way past the age limit sign,
Past 21, 30 and I'm still flying
Wish I knew , way back then I had the power
Now I'm speeding towards a 100 Years an hour."
It comes with a searing guitar solo and this single would easily stand toe to toe with any release coming from Nashville this week, It really is worth a listen and having glanced backwards it is going to be interesting to see what Andrew sees appearing in his future.
