SINGLE REVIEW: STEVE YOUNG AND THE REAL TIME PLAYERS - DOG 'N' BONE

On seeing the title, there was one horrendous moment where #TEAMw21 feared that Steve Young had ventured off down a Chas & Dave style cockney knees up musical path. What he has done instead is kick the year off to a cracking start with a sound quite bold and distinct from anything else we have heard for a while.

Steve has more recently been making headlines for non musical related matters so it is a pleasure to be able to once more focus on his music.

Initially starting to the sound of a dog barking, the introduction soon opens out, with an up front guitar riff, a glorious sumptuous organ sound and powerful percussion to make an instant impression. Steve's band are called The Real Time Players and they sound like a very tight unit.

This is just the start of the entertainment and overall sound, for as Steve sings each line, it then either gets added to by the wonderful Savannah Gardner or finds her harmonising with him to great effect.

"Well I've been singing on my own ( for too damn long )

I've been singing on my own ( for too damn long )

Like a fog without a bone

I've been doing it alone

Till you came along"

Things shuffle along in a similar vein at an insistent pace, giving a chance for the listener to luxuriate in the rich organ sound and insistent guitar riff which later is joined with a fabulous vibrant guitar solo

"Well I've been singing from the heart (always something going on)

I've been singing from the heart (always something going on)

Like a dog that's had a bath, I'd forgotten how to laugh

Till you came along"

It's relatively simple lyric wise however the combination of sound from the instrumentation and Savannah's backing vocals turn it into something quite special. It comes with an equally good natured video filmed around Stevenage Old Town and Goatfest in Codicote

Steve Youngs New Album  ‘Famous For A Day’ is released on March 6th (Vinyl) & Digital (April 4th)

The album launch show with the good folks at TALENTBANQ & Black Deer is at The Fiddler's Elbow Mar 6th
