SINGLE REVIEW: ROB JONES & THE RESTLESS DREAM - A GIRL I KNOW

As Rob Jones looks out from a table in a bar caressing his pint of choice as he does on the cover of his new single " A Girl I Know", he may well be pondering why he is not on the tip of everybody's tongue. With this fantastic new single he can't really do much more, as he ramps up the action to new levels on a most definite feel good summer time.

This single immediately stands out from the crowd from the off, as it is not guitar led, instead over the driving drum beat we have both organ and piano, with the piano picking out the key riff. Rob soon joins the frantic pace with a relaxed assured vocal

"It was the end of May - Summer on its way

Sky was turning purple overhead

You could save those tears, I'm getting out of here

Waste them on the late night news instead"

It is the start of a roller coaster ride, both lyrically and musically for as the second verse outlines the next stage of the adventure, the sound starts to include an acoustic guitar punctuation, think of the chorus of Dave Edmunds "Queen Of Hearts" and you'll get the gist, as well as the arrival of a saxophone.

""It's one more stop - about a hundred yards

It's bad news on the corner like a neon sign

It's a chicken shop by a marble arch

It's nothing like the music in my mind"

The pace continues to build as the night becomes ever wilder.

"There's a guy on heat -on Elizabeth Street

Take you any place you want to go"

The riff that introduced things returns for the chorus

"There's a girl I know - on the other side of town

And i won't let her down"

There is mention in the press release of this being Bob Seger inspired and anyone who loves "Hollywood Nights" will find a similar thrill to be had here especially when #TEAMw21 favourite Grace Kelly starts to make an appearance on backing vocals.

"It was late July, when I caught her eye

In a cafe down the road I used to know

Swear i saw, what I'd been waiting for

Woven into the fabric of her clothes"

It leads to the conclusion

"What if love was all you needed?" and that kicks off an almost gospel like celebration.

A combination of backing vocals, clapping, a by now Springsteenish sax and Grace really working those backing vocals combine to kick off an irresistible groove.

Intensely good fun - love every second!!

A Girl I Know - Available July 11th
