SINGLE REVIEW: LAKELIN LEMMINGS - HE AIN'T COMING BACK

Ahead of her highly anticipated UK debut at Country Calling comes Lakelin Lemmings not only with a brand new single "He Ain't Coming Back", but also with a debut 16 track album slated for release on July 24th. These are exciting times for Lakelin and this single sets all the dials to 11.

The guitar riff that opens things up loosely follows the vocal lines of Abba's "Honey Honey" but that is a mere preface while we wait for Lakelin to appear and when she does her mood is certainly unforgiving.

The riffing guitar sound is as mentioned much more vibrant and in your face than previous and Lakelin adjusts her vocals to not be overshadowed. they grow both increasingly louder and higher with each line. For the second half of the opening verse a power back beat only makes the sound more muscular. Also it should be noted, top use of the word "Blare", rarely seen in song lyrics!

"He can rope the moon, give me every star

He can talk real smooth, and try to steal my heart

He can buy me a red Ferrari

And say a million sorrys

He can stand outside of my window

Blare a take me back song on his radio

Still, it won’t be enough

No matter what he does"

If there was any doubt after the opening verse that this was not a girl to cross, then the chorus nails it down even further, delivered at a relentless pace and volume.

"He ain’t comin' back, no he ain’t comin' back

He don’t get to have what he had

Ain’t no mendin' fences

Baby, this girl’s burnin' bridges

I ain’t got a care in my heart left to give

Wouldn’t give it to him even if I did

No chance, no way, no how

He ain’t comin' back, no he ain’t comin' back"

Things slow for a second as we return for something of a shorter mini verse however Lakelin is soon fired up once more.

"I’ve gotten used to bein' all alone

Took his name and number off my phone

Yeah, ain’t it funny, how he starts callin' me now?"

The bridge is the final nail in the coffin.

"Ain’t a spark left in that flame

I’m as done with him as yesterday"

Quite what offence has been committed we'll have to imagine but for sure if you were dating Lakelin it was a foolish one!

For a lot of Lakelin's singles she has often opted to go for later releasing stripped back versions - it will be interesting if she follows suit with this one and is able to create the same sort of power.

Country Calling August 14-16th to get to see Lakelin Lemmings and the best emerging talent around as well as some familiar names.
