Having finished off 2025 praising a live performance from Jonny Morgan & a reduced Moral Support, it is great to quickly revisit them, this time with the full band in the shape of their new single "Don't Come Around". Even from just the introductory drum beat this feels like it is going to be something special and it does not disappoint in its thrilling three minutes.
Jonny's warm soulful vocals appear over a somewhat muted guitar sound, it grabs the attention by just being different, not following expectations. Lyrically it is instantly grabbing as well
"I know it's hard laying cards on the table
Given what we've been through
You show your hand when they're all in your favour
You really hate to lose"
It paints an interesting picture and points to a pivotal moment in a relationship, the opening couplet suggesting a couple that should be close, the second one displaying a level of of unease.
The band truly explode into life on the chorus where the burst of additional vocals and instrumentation takes things to another level entirely.
"So don't come around if you're not looking for something
Something not worth giving up
Don't come around, Don't come around"
The second verse only heightens the sense of mistrust.
"You think I'm blind to the things that you're hiding
I'm tired of acting the fool
You're selling lies that I'm no longer buying
I'll make this straight for you"
The bridge is preceded by a chant section played over a thumping back beat before Jonny's patience finally snaps.
"So go and talk shit behind my back
Cos you can't face the truth!"
Recorded in Nashville but with UK sensibilities, this cracking little single whets the appetite for an album due later in the year.
Pure pop with a soulful heart, Jonny Morgan & The Moral Support are increasingly looking like the real deal - touring the UK during March - go see them and find your next favourite band!
