It seems that Alyssa Bonagura is on some sort of creative high at the moment with everything she touches turning to gold and "Drink You Outta My Mind" the new single from Jade Heliwell, which she has produced and co written is another example.
It's a different style of Jade for sure, on this sleek ultra modern production and it works really well. Unusually it seems to open in a bar with voices chatting away before there's an acoustic guitar strum and Jade at first appearing as a disembodied voice, opens up proceedings
"Tonight I'm gonna raise it up
I think it's time to drink"
The tape then appears to slow and stick before we get under way properly - a neat little attention grabbing idea!
The sound proper at first, is a fast crisp drum beat with a banjo and little else - leaving plenty of room for Jade who plays the disaffected girlfriend perfectly. Someone who appears to be a secondary adornment, an afterthought when there's more laddish behaviour to be done.
"Right about now you'd be taking me out
To your spot downtown
I'd be wishing that you hadn't
Table for three,
Your boy, you and me
Always looking for something, when you already had it"
A little more production comes into play as Jade changes her vocal entirely, it's much more of a pop delivery and the opening line cuts a powerful image, the straw that breaks the camels back and succeeds in ramping the sassiness levels up to 11!
"Always on your phone, by my side but I'm alone
The best thing you ever did was let me go
I called up all my friends, saying "Here we go again"
But this time it's the final blow"
The chorus sees the full band appear - adding guitars to the over sound with percussion being gradually beefed up.
"So now I'm gonna raise it up
Pouring all my feelings into a sugar rimmed cup
Shake off our memories and twist 'em with a lime
I think it's time to drink
You outta my mind"
It's the cue for a celebration of a new found freedom
"Round about ten - we'll be more drinks in
Bartender saying "Bottom's up", next round's on him
We'll be painting the town red, in my brand new dress
Got dressed up to get down, got messed up to get loud
"Feels good to be free, I'm back to being me
Getting drunk on heartbreak sobriety"
The bridge provides a final put down, spelling out a harsh reality for her ex, twice for good measure!
"I'd rather get wasted than, waste it on you
And wake up hungover than wake up next to you"
The latter versions of the chorus, are musically different to keep the listener intrigued and there is just room for one final trademark extended note from Jade.
#TEAMw21 believes the term to be used here is "Late Summer banger" to see out the remaining warm Summer nights.
