Lindsay Ell - Right On Time

A couple of years ago Wallker McGuire had a song "Mysteries Of The World" where they pondered on certain conundrums such as

"Was there a shooter on the grassy knoll

Where did DB Cooper go?" - one they forgot to ask is Why is Lindsay Ell not the hugest country star ever?

Blessed with a great voice and a divine ability to play guitar. she was playing live with loops when Ed Sheeran was still in his school uniform - yet she seems to remain "respected" rather than reveered as she should be.

Her last two albums have been magnificent, ( 3 if you include "The Continuum Project" and even side projects such as her duet with Brantley Gilbert, all hit the spot, so possibly "Right On Time" her latest single is about to set things straight.

The initial opening sees a steady drum beat and a couple of guitars before Lindsay blindsides us with a killer opening line

"I got a friend who jusy got married - again" the pause between "married" and "again" is exquisite and immediately grabs the listeners attention as it is so unexpected.

"I don't know what that girl does - I can barely find a plus one!

My Momma says i'm just too picky!"

It could easily have been left there but instead it is followed up with the revealing lines

"Isn't that better than selling life short?

With someone that you're settling for"

Up until this point, the backing has been restrained almost muted but the chorus gives Lindsay a chance to show off all of her talents, there's lots of guitar thrown in and Lindsay shows she pretty adept at firing off a quickfire line or two.

"People make it look so easy - in and out of love so fast

I don't give it up that easy - cos I won't let my heart do that

I'm neither optimistic or a little naive

I'm everywhere and nowhere that I thought I would be

30 years later and I've got to believe that

I'm either late to the party or right on time"

There is thankfully time for a classic little Lindsay Ell guitar solo - classy but not overpowering the overall song - Lindsay then finds herself questioning

"I don't know why I'm impatient sometimes

When I know that I'm probably fine ( I hope I'm fine)" the final words are quietly reassuringly spoken to herself.

It all goes to make a punchy little single, that has something meaningful to say and does it with some panache. One can only hope that the world is finally ready for Lindsay Ell!!

Lindsay will be playing at The Long Road Festival and will be supporting Cadillac Three in the UK
