Of all the artists at Buckle & Boots that #TEAMw21 have yet to see play live - Josh Beer is one of the more intriguing ones. Hailing from Devon but with a voice that is more built for sipping whiskey than cider drinking, he might turn out to be one of the surprise acts that B&B tends to throws up each year that grab their moment in the sun - or in Josh's case moment in the tent!.
"Days Like These" is his latest single and very good it is too, built primarily around a cracking guitar riff and drum beat. There's a sort of rawness about it while at the same time it is also quite polished.
"Living life got no money to spare
We've got 2 days off and time to spend on
More days like these that lead to
Night like this"
He earns his country spurs with his Alan Jackson reference
"Down by the river getting kissed by the sun
"Chattahoochee" on the speakers - ain't a cloud in the sky"
and just about manages to reel things in before going too schmaltzy
"Well I don't care much for them city lights
Give me a jukebox playing country on a hardwood floor"
It has to be said that Josh is not the most prolific artist in terms of releases with literally a handful of songs put out over as many years, yet they present as an artist gradually finding his voice with each new recording. He seems to transform from a Country Jake Bugg into a more Nashville timbre as he gets older.
Josh Beer will play The Paddock Stage at 17:20 On Sunday
