SINGLE REVIEW: LOST HOLLOW - COME COME ALONG

Always worth checking out Lost Hollow when they issue a new single, and "Come Come Along" is another that will not disappoint. The distinct Americana acoustic guitar intro, with sparing additional guitar, gives way to the sweetest of loving lyrics, sung as a duet. It is expressed in the simplest of ways, direct from the heart.

"Never have I ever seen the grass so green

Never seen the sky so blue

Never seen a smile so wide on me

Till the day that I looked at you"

It could sound twee, yet it only comes across feeling like a true expression of emotions.

A fiddle joins the overall sound leading to the chorus

"Come come along, come come along

Be in my song I like it that way

Rolling like a stone, baby come along

You and me together I like it that way."

For the second verse, the most subtle bass and percussion enter the fray.

"Baby can I make you a daisy chain?

White and gold and green

Weave it all through your hair so fair

As I crown my forever queen"

With the sound ever growing, the bass and percussion becomes more pronounced

"Baby take my hand may I have this dance?

Waltzing in our bare feet

Swaying to the music we both hear

From the wind blowing through the trees"

A little instrumental break follows the second chorus, the Harden's sweetly "Ooohing" together

"Let me lean in for a long slow kiss

Under the summertime sky

Till the fireflies light the night"

A second instrumental break after a repeated chorus, gently eases us to the end.

It's a single of stunning simplicity, it feels like any of us could have knocked it up and that is the essence as to why it is so good, for it takes a lot of work to sound this effortless! Just listen to how perfectly Tommy has captured the drum sound, to get a feel for the skill involved. The lyrics although seemingly basic, paint such bold vivid images, the barefoot couple dancing, or the passage of time passing, spent in each others company, highlighted by the fireflies are the sort of timeless image normally found in a gallery.
