Coming to Country Calling for her debut UK show is Lakelin Lemmings, and hot off the back of her successful debut EP comes a new single "Life Of Mine". It is sure to get played, and to get a great reaction, as the majority of the crowd will sort of already know it, even if they find themselves fumbling over what the actual words are!
It is one of those tunes that is somewhat ubiquitous, as if you've known it since birth. Joyful and uplifting, much like we imagine Lakelin's set will be on Sunday the 16th August, "Life Of Mine" has the ability to send out waves of goodwill. Its message of finding everyday happiness in your sweetheart, family and faith, and a small-town life is a idyll we could aspire to.
With a church organ, and prominent piano leading the sound while the percussion which could easily be clapping provides the backbeat, it provides the perfect backing for Lakelin's reworked lyrics, and her voice all but welcomes you to join in this little bit of heaven here on earth.
"These old boots I’m gonna walk ‘em straight
Gonna kick up a little dust along the way
Gonna let this rock roll where it rolls and enjoy the ride
And just take in
This little life of mine"
The chorus singing the virtues of a simple life seems a haven in the hustle and bustle of the 21st century.
"This little life of mine
I’m gonna live it right
I got a good one by my side
And his love keeps me alive
It ain’t much I know
But it’s suitin’ me just fine
I’m alright
With this little life of mine"
In many ways this tune is the epitome of Lakelin, for she is the absolute Queen of writing small town tunes and her faith is an intrinsic part of who she is, so combining them seems a perfect combination.
With a screaming guitar solo as well, what more could you ask for?
Life Of Mine is available now.
