Every so often something arrives from someone you've previously never heard of that makes you stop and take notice. Such is the case with New York born, Nashville based Carolyn Miller, however with six singles planned for this year that could be about to change. The latest one "Fighting For You" is a little pop country classic, uplifting in a believable way, as it acknowledges that life is not always a bed of roses however there are certain things worth not giving up on.
The single opens to a mix of unobtrusive electronica and a banjo like sound, just setting the scene for Carolyn to open up her vocals
"We've had some days, it's been far from easy lately
Like there's always something waiting, to try and knock us down
But we get back up, with a heart that keeps on pumping
Enough to keep on punching, to see another round"
The extended boxing metaphor works to hold things together, drilling home that life can at times be a struggle.
The preamble to the chorus almost seems like Carolyn rousing a wavering partner, reminding them of what has already been achieved.
"Look how far we've come - but we've still got a lot to go
It's one hell of a ride, so just know"
The chorus is punchy and powerful keeping the boxing theme going seeing Carolyn powering through the vocals, living every line
"As long as you're there in my corner - as long I've got your hand to hold
Whatever this life throws our way I hope you know you're not alone
We'll have our share of battles, despite the storms we'll make it through
As long as you're by my side, baby, I'll never stop fighting for you"
The second verse focuses on the daily troubles that many will easily associate with
"Sometimes, raising babies, always running
Short on patience tight on money
Our whole worlds spinning wild
There'll be days when the bills just keep on rising
But there's hope on the horizon, even when it's hard to smile"
The bridge very much accentuates the positives, seeing brighter times ahead.
"Look how far we've come but we've still got a lot to go
One day we'll miss these times, so just know..."
With Carolyn's vocals delivering an ever building intensity throughout, "Fighting For You" makes a great way to start of a run of singles and we look forward to see what comes next.
