SINGLE REVIEW: BROOKE LAW - ADRENALINE RUSH
There is nothing more baffling than diving into the world of Spotify numbers, if you take it at face value then "Here Comes The Sun" is the greatest Beatles record of all time, and Brooke Law's last single "Bad Idea" is her second best recording to date, both statements of course being patently untrue. The Beatles answer is quite easy, "Here Come The Sun" crops up on multiple playlists regarding holidays, springtime etc which explains its popularity. It could have led Brooke to presuppose that the world was waiting for more "Bad Idea"'s which #TEAMw21 are not entirely sure would have been a wise path despite what Spotify says! Instead she has delivered "Adrenaline Rush" which is much more on the mark.
Starting in a quite raw fashion, there is just an electric guitar and Brooke's vocals, for the opening twenty seconds or so, which are relatively restrained, only hinting at what is to come.
"Records rolling, buzz is going
All that I got on my mind
Water's turning, head is burning
Rushing to get on that ride
Spinning around, I don't want to come down
This time"
The lyrics and early pics may make it seem it they are alluding to a fairground ride but that would probably be taking things far too literally.
The chorus comes in two distinct sections, the first part sees the arrival of more guitars
"I need to get up, I don't want a break
Cos I've had enough of the tidal wave
Some say it's love, some say it's pain
Adrenaline rush to come again
Come come again"
The second half of the chorus takes the sound to another level, it gives the impression of there almost being a backing choir, giving the song something of a spiritual feel to it, with Brooke's vocals finally being unshackled, on the final line.
The second verse sees the volume spike once more, with the arrival of a bludgeoning drum sound, and more guitars. Lyrically it seems to be more comparing the feeling that performers talk of, that moment when bursting onto the stage to perform to an adrenaline rush. Brooke's vocals really emphasising that final line like it's a primeval need.
"Keep on running, needing something
To get me back on the road
All or nothing, I'm not stopping
Letting myself go
Want to fill it out
I don't want to come down this time"
The end of the second chorus, sees the choir once more appear for the "Come come again" line, this time bolder, in an anthemic swirl, leading to a giddy bridge.
"I'm coming up, I'm coming down
I'm going in and out
Is it too much? never enough
I'm going round and round and round"
A chorus with just Brooke and a hushed guitar, highlights her ability to switch the intensity with which she delivers in an instant.
The sound moves to a rocking guitar solo which is going to be beloved by radio DJ's the nation over as it and the single itself end incredibly suddenly and will highlight who is or isn't paying attention!
