The Nordics has always proved to be a surprisingly rich vein of Americana artists across the years, we still play Norway's Daniel Borge's mysterious "Room 208" and mourn the demise of Sweden's Fifth Floor however a possible new replacement may be coming in the shape of GLIMTVIS. They could possibly be creating Buckle & Boots history by playing full sets on both stages in the same year.
So who are the Danish duo and what are you likely to get? Well GLIMTVIS are Rasmus Pedersen and Rikke Egholm Ravn, who with their various collaborators have their own version of Americana that has the swagger Nashville without the fascination of click tracks leaving a more refreshing real sound.
Dipping into their last album "The Nashville Confessions" you get a rich variety of material, "Is Anybody Missing Me?" is a powerful serious opener wrapped up
"One Life" may have a familiar theme of living life to the full but it comes with a marvelous turn of phrase
"Open Road" similarly has a great line "Let's play a game of spin the throttle and don't look back" that google assures has never been used before.
While they have a fine line in anthemic crowd pleasers, they can also, slow things down an lay down gentle tunes like "Superhero" with Rikke delivering a very tender vocal over the most minimal of instrumentation. While "Finding Me & You" is a soulful triumph of harmonies and the piano ballad "Forgive Me For Dreaming"
The slightly bewildering "Bronco Love" takes the hose metaphor to the absolute limits
With enough material accrued across the years to easily fill both sets it will be interesting to see what GLIMTVIS present us with - songs like "Wonder" from the 2024 EP "Weren't We Just Dancing" EP is a wonderfully gentle song that anyone would be proud to be a part of while "Hurricane Wall" is as grungy and loud as anything the Brothers Osbourne will lay down. Only way to find out is to give them some of your time
GLIMTVIS Play The Main Stage at 15:20 in Saturday & The Paddock Stage on Sunday at 16:10
