The trouble with covering Christmas carols is that sometimes the results can be a bit worthy, faithful to the original and therefore a bit out of kilter with the rest of an artists catalogue. No such problems for the Wildwood Kin team who have very much overlaid their sound over the festive favourite to the point you could almost forget it was a carol.
This song has been released to quell demand form their fans for something seasonal, and from the opening guitar intro there is clearly a Wildwood Kin feel about the track although as they start the vocals they are as faithful as any carol singers could be to the source material.
At the end of the first verse comes the addition of some simple yet neat and effective percussion and some vocal harmonies that lift this from being a straight forward rendition to something special
With a coda that puts the emphasis on the new arrangement - this is a welcome addition to anyones Christmas playlist.
